What is it?
Mathpower[ed] is a 4-week math acceleration course designed to help students entering grades 5th - 7th get ahead. The concepts covered include fractions, rational numbers, order of operations, exponents, linear equations, and graphing. The program takes an integrated STEM approach, leveraging multiple disciplines to solve rigorous, real-world problems.
Mathpower[ed] utilizes the summer to strengthen students’ math foundation and expose them to rigorous algebra preparedness work. Students will begin the next school year with a critical advantage over their peers.
What are the details?
Students receive:
- 75 hours of coursework delivered over 4 weeks
- Challenging Common Core State Standards aligned instruction from a credentialed teacher and a college-level teaching assistant
- Inspiration to pursue STEM fields
- Integration of fun, web-based practice tools & educational games
- Active, hands-on learning
- Introduction to college requirements
- Field trip to a local company
Mathpower[ed]leverages over 4 years of experience and insight gained from SVEF’s proven Stepping Up To Algebra (SUTA) program, an intervention program that has helped push more than 3,000 underserved Basic and Below Basic students entering 8th grade into Algebra I.

What does it cost?
Program fee is $595 per student before registration deadline; $625 for late registration (refer to locations above for registration dates).
