The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1994. Drafted by the office of then Senator Joe Biden, VAWA represented one of the greatest advancements for the civil rights of women in the United States. Recognizing that VAWA comes due this year for reauthorization by Congress, the Yale Law School Chapter of the American Constitution Society, Yale Law Women, and the Yale Law Journal will host a conference on VAWA on October 28 and 29, 2011. Victoria Nourse will offer the keynote address, and the conference will feature such speakers as Dean Larry Sager of University of Texas Law School and Lynn Hecht Schafran of Legal Momentum.
